High-torque External-rotor Motors

Maxon presents another innovation in the area of BLDC motors: the ECX flat product family. These external-rotor motors can be configured online and are optimized for maximum performance thanks to the special winding technology, as well as segmented magnets. The ratio of torque to weight and size is second to none and is ideal for use in UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicle) and robotics applications.

Motion Control Application – Maxon Motors Are in A New Docking System for Space Rendezvous!

Motion Control Application – Docking System for ISS!

Motion Control Application – The European Space Agency (ESA) is working on a new system to enable easy docking between two spacecraft. maxon developed two special drive systems for this purpose.

Taunton, MA — Motion Control Application – Even though it’s been done many times before, the docking maneuver between two objects in space is always a delicate and potentially dangerous procedure. The speed is extremely high (about 28,000 km/h in case of the ISS), and corrections are difficult. For example, when the two objects are about to meet, maneuvering thrusters can no longer be used, since their exhaust plumes can cause damage. To prevent harm, cargo transporters are caught by a robotic arm installed in the International Space Station (ISS) and berthed manually. Manned spacecraft on the other hand dock directly in a computer-controlled process.

Santa Clarita, CA —– Linear Motion – H2W introduces its latest custom XY voice coil positioning stage (VCS08-700-08/350-AB-01-MC-XY) which is guided by precision air bearings. This minimizes the amount of friction and reduces the pitch, yaw, and roll in the system. The stage is driven by three NCC series moving coil type linear actuators which are guided by parallel air bearing shafts. It is operated under closed loop position control. This system was designed specifically for an accelerometer testing application.

Motion Control Application – Maxon Flat Motors Helps in Keeping Muscles in Shape!

Motion Control -Application – Flat Motors

For paraplegic people, rehabilitation is frequently a long process; this is why methods and tech-nology that optimize these measures for the patient are so important. At the Bern University of Applied Sciences, many years of research has led to the development of a recumbent trike with electrical stimulation. The patient’s movements are supported by a maxon flat motor.

Taunton, MA — Motion Control Products – Cycling with a recumbent trike can partially restore lost motor functions of patients with spinal cord lesions. Furthermore, it provides the patients with a very practical and successful basis for cardiopulmonary and muscular training units. The paralyzed leg muscles are reactivated by means of functional electric stimulation (FES) combined with controlled training.

Santa Clarita, CA —– Motion Control – When an application requires fast motion with a stroke over a couple of inches, a brushless linear motor stage will meet the needs of long travel and fast motion when coupled with a motion control system with servo amplifiers and a motion controller. Brushless linear motor stages can be coupled as a gantry for pick-and-place manufacturing or inspection equipment. The fast motion allows for high throughput when manufacturing or examining parts.

Motion Control – Maxon Expands its range of configurable drives!

Motion Control – Miniature Configurable Drives!

Maxon is once again expanding its range of configurable drives with more brushless DC motors, gearheads, and encoders from the ECX series.

Taunton, MA — Motion Control Products – The ECX series is growing with the addition of the maxon ECX Speed 4. This tiny powerhouse with a diameter of only 4 millimeters is designed for use in medical technology. The brushless DC motors are available in 2 versions: M (medium) and L (long) and can reach speeds of up to 50,000 rpm. They can be combined with the new GPX 4 C gearheads, which are available as two, three, or four-stage versions. With the GPX planetary gearheads, the pressure angle of the toothing has been optimized to achieve longer uptimes.

Motion Control – Frameless Brushless Torque Motor from H2W Technologies, Inc.

Motion Control Component - Franmess Bruchless Torque Motor ARC Segment

H2W Logo

Santa Clarita, CA —– Linear Motion Control Components – H2W has developed an unhoused arc segmented frameless brushless torque motor (TWR-070-410-1150-3PH) with low inertia moving coil assembly for high angular acceleration applications. The rotary 3-phase brushless motor, also known as a rotary servo motor, is a direct drive motor that is ideal for limited or unlimited, closed loop servo, rotary motion applications. It can generate a continuous/peak torque of 480 in-lbs [53 Nm]/1440 in-lbs [159 Nm]. It has been designed to have a 70° rotation and operate on a 20” (500 mm) radius, but additional modular magnet tracks (33° each) can be added to increase angular displacement. It is capable of very precise position, velocity, and acceleration control when coupled with a rotary encoder for position feedback

The vacuum encapsulated moving motor coil assembly moves through a gap in the long U shaped magnet assembly. A customer supplied bearing system is required to guide the moving coil assembly and to maintain a .050″ [1.25 mm] clearance between the magnet and the coil assembly. There is no attractive force between the motor coil and the magnet assembly. The 3-phase motor coil assembly can be commutated trapezoidally using integral hall effects or commutated sinusoidally using software commutation in conjunction with the appropriate amplifier, motion controller and encoder feedback. The power to the motor, from a brushless servo amplifier, is supplied via a high-flex motor power cable. Motors can be designed to fit customer specific application requirements.

Features:

  • Zero cogging
  • High speed and accelerations of light loads
  • Low inertia
  • Multiple motors coils inside a single magnet assembly
  • Uses standard 3-phase brushless amplifier

Motion Control Application – Robotic Rib Spreading Tool to Help Patients Hurt Less and Heal Faster!

Motion Control – Medical Application

One advanced technology company is taking on the challenge of developing hand-held, robotic surgical instruments to help patients hurt less and heal faster.  High torque maxon motors ensure jerk-free movement of the tool.

Most often, these tools have been efficient enough to do the job, even if patients took a long time to heal.
