The resultant motor is a direct drive linear electric motor that can produce linear motion without the need of pneumatic, hydraulic cylinders, or translation of rotary to linear motion with the use of belts or screws. Problem: Move heavy sets on a sound stage smoothly, quickly, and most importantly quietly! Ball screws specified in the original design proved unacceptable due to the limited length of travel, screw deflection which resulted in a lack of smoothness, and high noise levels. A rack and pinion was also considered but the noise level was also too high and there was no room for a gearbox. Linear motors are quiet however the cost was prohibitive, and a belt system could not handle the heavy loads.

Solution: The new Streamliner Open Screw Drive System from Winner was selected by the production company to move the heavy sets on the sound stage.

Van Nuys, CA — Motion Control – Moticont has added another non-commutated linear actuator to its DDLM series of low cost actuators.

The 0.125 in. (3.2 mm) diameter shaft has an internal thread on each end, a total of length of 4.960 in (126.0 mm), and extends 1.585 in. (40.3 mm) past the mounting end of the actuator. The shaft extends thru the 3/8-32 UNF x 0.250 (6.4 mm) long threaded studs at each end of the housing which can be used for mounting the DDL-019-070-01 linear actuator. Long life plain linear bearings support the internal shaft at both end of the actuator.
