E. Longmeadow, MA – — Motion Control – Application Story – When an aftermarket manufacturer of off-road steering and suspension systems needed an upper ball joint bearing, they called LM76. These systems are purchased by off-road vehicle owners who want to upgrade their OEM steering and suspension units for hard-hitting environments. Pounding, shock, sand and debris are all part of the mix when it comes to extreme off-roading and LM76 Black Racer bearings are right at home. According to company engineers, after a year of brutal testing, Black Racer met all design goals and exceeded expectations.

Linear Motion – FDA/USDA/3A-Dairy Compliant ETX Scraper Seals for Linear Bearings Used In Food Processing Applications!

Motion Control – ETX Scrapers and Seals

E. Longmeadow, MA – Motion Control Components – Linear Motion – LM76 has introduced FDA/USDA/3-A Dairy compliant, snap-in ETX Scraper Seals for linear bearings. Machined from Ertalyte® PET-P, ETX Scraper Seals have high strength, excellent wear resistance, low coefficient of friction, and excellent dimensional stability at higher temperatures than seals from other materials. Designed with a slight interference fit between bearing ID and shaft, ETX Scraper Seals prevents contaminates and debris from migrating beneath the seal as it scrapes the shaft surface.

E. Longmeadow, MA –Motion Control – LM76 has developed the most corrosion resistant linear bearing available. In space, deep under the sea, or in the harshest environments, when there can be no “Plan B,” Pegasus Series 1 Linear Ball Bearings can be counted on to perform. In some applications linear bearings will not move for days, weeks, months or even years, however, when called on to perform they must work as if they just came out of the box. LM76’s Pegasus Series 1 Linear Bearings feature Silicon Nitride (SiNi) Ceramic Balls in a shell with retainer and end caps all made from 440 Stainless Steel and then ArmorloyTM coated.

E. Longmeadow, MA — Motion Control – LM76 has announced the release of their new line of Radial Ball Bearings featuring ZrO2 (Zirconia) Ceramic balls. To Complement LM76’s broad range of Linear Bearings that are FDA/UDSA/3A Dairy compliant, as well as linear bearings for extreme environments; they have added Deep Groove bearings which accommodate radial and axial loads, Angular Contact bearings for simultaneously handling radial and axial loads, Spherical Bearings which are self aligning, and Thrust Bearings for high axial loads. Each of the four types of metric bearings are available in a wide range sizes.

E. Longmeadow, MA –Motion Control Application-

Problem: Move heavy sets on a sound stage smoothly, quickly, and most importantly quietly! Ball screws specified in the original design proved unacceptable due to the limited length of travel, screw deflection which resulted in a lack of smoothness, and high noise levels. A rack and pinion was also considered but the noise level was also too high and there was no room for a gearbox. Linear motors are quiet however the cost was prohibitive, and a belt system could not handle the heavy loads.

Solution: The new Streamliner Open Screw Drive System from Winner was selected by the production company to move the heavy sets on the sound stage.

Designed with a slight interference fit between bearing ID and shaft, contaminates are scraped from the shaft’s surface. The low frictional characteristics of ETX have little impact on drive force. They are now available in Inch and Metric sizes.

Motion Control -What To Consider When Specifying A Linear Slide

Motion Control – Tutorial

Considerations when specifying a linear slide for a new or existing application.

By Mike Quinn • LM76

When a design engineer has fully defined a linear-motion application’s requirements regarding travel length, speed, force, and accuracy as well as repeatability, the next question to answer is this:

Does an off-the-shelf linear slide (or a stock linear slide from a catalog) fully satisfy the application?

motion control - linear motion products

Off-the-shelf linear slides are advantageous for their quick delivery and lower cost than that of custom components. No wonder most linear-motion designs do in fact employ off-the-shelf linear slides from various component and system suppliers.

E. Longmeadow, MA Motion — Control Components – Linear Motion – Available off-the-shelf, cylindrical, self lubricating, sintered bronze bearings from LM76 feature: Very high precision (e.g +2μ to +12μ for 2mm ID bearings), high load capacity (100kg/sq cm), high speed 30,000 rpm) and rapid oscillation capabilities, low/high temperature (-60OC to +230OC), very low coefficient of friction (0.02), and low noise. These reliable, economic bearings are available in metric sizes (2 mm to 100 mm ID by 2 mm to 120 mm long) and have applications in: Appliances such as washing machines, exercise equipment, portable machine tools, toys, motors, packaging machinery, garden tools and machinery, vibration damping, and automotive equipment such as alternators.

These lifetime Self Lubricating bearings are impregnated in the sintering process with a lubricant to suit the application. Sintered bearings are available in lead free Bronze, bronze alloys and Iron. Additionally: Flanged bearings (IDs 3 mm to 60 mm by 4 mm to 60 mm long) and precision (ID tolerance ISO H7) Spherical bearings, with or without a collar, (IDs 4 mm to 12 mm by 10 mm to 23 mm ODs) are available, as well as custom sizes and designs. Because of the very low coefficient of friction these bearings show no wear after many thousands of hours of use. Standard metric cylindrical and flanged oil impregnated bearings are typically shipped from stock, Custom bearings (ID, OD, flange size, and length) can be ordered as well as special purpose alloys. Alloys include: sintered bronze, iron sintered bronze, ParaliteTM (non-migrating lubricant), and TriboloyTM (chromium, nickel, cobalt alloy for temperatures over 1000O F). TriboloyTM sintered bearings are resistant to corrosion, erosion, abrasion, and galling, and even at high temperatures they are resistant to oxidation.
